The fuel type is often written on the front of the heating system.
Most boilers are supplied with gas. If you have a gas meter, gas cooker or gas fire it is likely to be a gas boiler. If you have gas bottles or an LPG storage tank outside then it is LPG.

As part of your heat pump installation, we'll also need to install a hot water cylinder.
Airing cupboards are one of the most popular choices, along with loft spaces and garages.
No matter which location you choose, you'll need approximately 2 square metres of floor space and 2 metres of height to allow for pipe fittings.

Heat pumps work differently from a traditional gas boiler as they typically heat water to a lower temperature than a boiler would, which means less energy is used. However, this does tend to mean that larger radiators are required to ensure the home can still be heated sufficiently with the lower flow temperature.

The outdoor unit is the part of the heat pump system that extracts heat from the air outside to transfer inside your home. It's an essential part of the system, and so it's really important that there's enough space outside your home for it to be installed correctly and compliantly.
This unit is roughly the size of a large suitcase (110cm x 80cm x 45cm). It also requires at least 100cm around it to be able to effectively extract heat from the air.

If you've recently bought your home then it will have a valid EPC as it's a requirement when selling a property. However, they last for 10 years so even if you've been there for a while you may still have one. It's really easy to check, just follow the steps below.

The easiest way to find out when your home was built is to look at its "title register". These are more commonly known as the "title deeds". The title deeds are proof of ownership of the property, but they also tell you when the property was sold to the first owner by the property developer. If you are the current owner, your conveyancer should have sent you the title deeds after the sale was completed. HM Land Registry will allow you to purchase your title register for £3.
